Please feel free to request more tickets and invite your family and friends to this one of a kind evening of great food and entertainment close to home!

On Sunday, April 29th, there will be a Scrapbooking Crop held here at YMGSM in order to raise funds to continue our educational programming. The cost is $25 per person and includes refreshments throughout the day as well as use of many scrapbooking tools, including the amazing CRICUT die cut maker. There will be scrapping products available for sale this day as well. Please bring your own projects to work on, as well as your paper, pens, adhesive, stickers, etc. to get that lingering project completed! Spaces will be limited, so be sure to reserve your spot soon. Invite your friends to enjoy a relaxing day of fun and get that project done that you’ve been meaning to complete! Please see Mrs. McCracken to sign up.

Where a Love of Learning Begins

Lynn Olsen is the new cook at YMGS!

Unfortunately, due to illness, Alice Palko had to resign from her cooking position. Miss Emily Olsen’s sister, Lynn, who has background in cooking, has taken over the position of cook. Lynn began her time with us here this Monday, and has impressed us all with her delicious recipes! Welcome Lynn and we can’t wait to enjoy all of your wonderful and healthy creations!

Emily Olsen is the new Preschool Assistant

With numbers increasing in the Preschool room, Mrs. McCracken now requires an assistant some days of the week. Miss Olsen is going to be in the Preschool room, assisting Mrs. McCracken with the children’s activities, art and other events. Please welcome Miss Olsen! Miss Olsen is also covering lunch breaks and some call-in shifts. Welcome to our school family Miss Olsen.

Summer Program to be offered at YMGS!

The summer program will begin on Tuesday, July the 3rd (WE ARE CLOSED MONDAY, JULY 2nd). Please let Mrs. McCracken know if your preschool child will continue to attend during the months of July and August. The ELP is not offered during these months, so discounts will not be given. Please let Mrs. McCracken know ASAP so that a space can be held for your child to enjoy the wonderful activities, trips and events that we have planned for the summer. The same educational programming will be offered throughout July and August.

Working with families to make their child’s educational beginnings a rewarding and memorable experience is our goal.

Grocery Bag Donations

Any donations of used grocery bags would be greatly appreciated, as we use a lot to send home art, dirty clothes and other children’s treasures on a daily basis. Also, donations of beautiful junk would be appreciated, plastic containers such as peanut butter jars, coffee cans, etc.Any craft supplies and anything that may be converted to art or activities for the children would be welcomed! Thank you for your donations!

Prompt drop off and pickup please!

Due to staffing reductions at 12:30 and 4:30, all communication and pick-up procedures need to be completed before these times. We thank you for your co-operation and assistance in keeping our staff to child ratios within regulations. Families will be charged a late fee of $3 per child if your child is still in our care after 12:30 or 4:30.

Also please call to inform your classroom teacher if your child will not be attending school that day.

Young Minds Great Start Montessori is a Non-Profit Organization that was dreamed up by Jessica Beselaere McCracken, in early 2006. Mrs. McCracken has her Honours B.A. in Sociology from the University of Guelph, her M.E.C.T.C. (Montessori Early Childhood Teaching Credential) from Oakland University in Michigan, and her Infant and Toddler Montessori Certificate from the North American Montessori Centre. With the help of her supportive family and friends, the dream became a reality with the discovery of a quaint old house on Canal Street in March 2006. Renovations began to convert this wonderful old house into the beautiful school that it is today! Being a non-profit corporation allows the School to benefit from any assistance available from the Municipality, as well as gain subsidized spaces for those parents requesting assistance. We are also able to accept CAW “Big Three” Auto Plans, which allows GM, Chrysler and Ford employee’s children a chance to benefit from our programs.

Baby Signs Programs to be offered at YMGSM for children ages 0 to 6

Mrs. McCracken is now an Independent Certified Instructor for Baby Signs, an Institute that offers programs for parents and children, as well as educators to introduce signing to hearing babies and toddlers. Mrs. McCracken is offering many upcoming classes at Young Minds Great Start and invites families to join her, or to extend the invitation to other families or friends with young children. The program allows non-communicating children to express their needs and desires by simple sign language. The signs that are implemented in the Baby Signs program are mostly ASL (American Sign Language) signs, but some have been adapted for small hands. There are upcoming Parent Workshops to be held in the months of May, June and July. Please feel free to speak to Mrs. McCracken about any of the opportunities available to you as a parent that could help your child communicate to you, lessening frustrations on both the child and parent’s behalf.

It is recommended to start signing with babies from between 8 to 14 months. Happy Signing!

Please return any unsold Murder Mystery tickets.

Please ensure to return your unsold Murder Mystery tickets to Mrs. McCracken by Monday, April 9th in order for us to prepare a final tally of tickets for the caterer. Money for ticket sales should be turned in no later than Wednesday, April 11th. Thanks for your support!
